Back after a 5 week lay-off due to manflu – still can’t shake it – and injuries. And my ankle isn’t fixed and my knee is playing up again, yadda, yadda…
And worse still, I’ve gained 1lb despite walking 75.4km to and from work.

This was a tough one today – hence the changed route – as it was hot and windy (and so was I!).
So nearly 10 weeks after my last run ended in a muscle pull, and after tearing ligaments in my ankle a month ago, this was my first run and a hot one at that. Lots of work to do to get my fitness back up.
In case anyone was wondering about the lack of updates, I should probably let you know it’s all injury-related. After the calf muscle taking so long to settle down, I’d assumed that following a bit of rest and all the cycling in Gstaad, it’d die down a bit and I could start running again.
And then on the 8th August after a long day starting at 2.30am with a drive to the airport to drop Alison off for her holiday, I tripped walking home from work later that night and I appear to have done something pretty nasty to my left ankle. Here are some photos with my right ankle in shot for comparison:
Yes, I should’ve gone to A&E to get it checked out, but:
So we’ll wait and see if I can run on it in Fuerteventura next month and if not, I’ll get it checked out in October.
Damn! Making good time when my left calf muscle went (over-compensating from a sore right knee after the weekend).
A week after my last run due to the tendonitis/calf muscle pull and this wasn’t too bad: the dodgy calf muscle started nipping up towards the end but not too bad. Ibuprofen is my friend though.
Weight is up ⅔lb to 87.8kg
Bloody calf muscle nipped right up at around 2k. This weekend’s Cancer Research Winter Run 10k is a big worry now.
Weight is down to 87.5kg.
The last run before I break for Christmas, but my calf muscle pulled at around 1km in. I thought that was a thing of the past…
Welcome to “Richard the Runner”. This is my blog about running.
I hate running.
I have all the gear, but no idea. I’m 52, male, called Richard (obv!) and I’ve been advised by my consultant not to run but to swim and cycle instead as one of my knees has a fair degree of necrosis.
But my bucket list has “run a marathon” on it and I’ve so far managed to enter the Berlin Marathon twice, only to pull out due to injury {sigh} in 2013 and 2014 after my then girlfriend managed a PB around 3:45 (which gave her a “good for age” entry into the London Marathon).
So I’m told I have an automatic entry into the 2015 Berlin Marathon and this is my blog to record my experiences.
Did I mention I hate running?
